 About NomineeNominees' website: http://edcamp.org Nominee's Organization Ed Camp Foundation Nominators affiliation to nominee: Colleagues Tell us how he/she is making a difference: We've had the opportunity to meet and /or collaborate with several of the members of the EdCamp Foundation and can say that this group of educators is truly amazing. The passion, creativity, collaborative spirit and bias for action of this group has started what can authentically be called a true movement. The Edcampers are revolutionizing the face and form of professional development for educators accross the nation. Known as the "unconference", what started as a single event in Philadelphia in 2010 has spread to over 200 EdCamps across the nation. The vision of the EdCamp Foundation is to "promote organic, participant-driven professional development for K-12 educators worldwide and a number of EdCamps have already been held in other countries including Canada and the UAI. There's no doubt that EdCamp is an extraordinary innovation in education that can be measured by the growing number of people they are touching. Kudos to the extraordinary leaders at the EdCamp Foundation, including, Mary Beth Hertz, Kim Sivick, Kristen Swanson, Ann Leaness, Mike Ritzius,Hadley Ferguson, Kevin Jarrett, Dan Callahan, Christine Miles, and Robert Rowe.

About the NomineeBrief Comments - What other facts should we know about your nominee? This small group of dedicated educators has contributed dramatically to our profession in such a short time. Their influence is both local and global. For many of us, the whole definition of professional development has changed as a result of their work. I learn more at edcamps than I ever learn at traditional confs! Thank you for leading the change.

They're tireless efforts continue to make it happen for thousands of educators everywhere. The EdCamp Foundation took a chance and turned it into a world-wide alteration in teacher professional development. From a small start with one EdCamp in Philadelphia, the EdCamp foundation now assist EdCamp groups around the world in presenting days of teacher-led, free professional development.

About the NomineeBrief Comments - What other facts should we know about your nominee? What is amazing about Edcamp is the grassroots nature of the movement and the diversity that each event exhibits. These participant-led unconferences are putting teachers back in charge of their own learning and empowering them as professionals to collaborate with their peers and push the envelope.

About the NomineeBrief Comments - What other facts should we know about your nominee? At edcamp educators have autonomy to choose what they want to learn. Their passion and drive is evident to even those non-educators in attendance. Edcamp is open to all educators and non-educators alike allowing for diversity of thought and ideas. This type of professional development speaks to the needs and desires of the teachers in the classroom, something missing in traditional PD.

The EdCamp model is raising the bar for PD, encouraging educators, and growing the capacity of leaders world-wide.
