Yesenia started out as a parent during which time she served on the Parent Policy Council as the President. During that time she attended monthly meetings and represented the agency at the city-wide level as a member of the City-Wide ACS Parent Policy Council. As the chair, she trained parents on being advocates for their children, enrolling in school and obtaining vocational skills.

In March of 2012 she was promoted to Education Director to oversee the entire education division for the Early Childhood Services Program. Within this position she would manage to join the Discount School Supplies Customer Advisory Board. She has since created strong partnerships with local colleges in an effort to have undergraduate and graduate students come to their classroom to obtain their field work experience hours in their program. She has also partnered with Scholastics to facilitate an annual book fair to support their literacy development goal. Yesenia has additionally partnered with the Bronx Children’s Museum in order to promote community resources within the neighborhood. Another partnership with NYC Department of Health allows her to provide training to staff and local teachers on the importance of physical health and education. Another alliance was formed with HITN a Latino Television Network to bring literacy-based support for English Language students.

In terms of staff, she has two teachers that are returning to school to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and she is also assisting two teachers in obtaining their NYC teaching license.

Overall, her staff and parents feel that the quality of the program continues to improve due to her hard work and dedication made on behalf of their young children.
