Daisy Dyer Duerr Academy Nominee New HotAbout NomineeName of Nominee: Nominees' website: Nominee's Organization St. Paul Public Schools (AR) Nominators affiliation to nominee: Colleague Tell us how he/she is making a difference: Daisy is the PreK-12 Principal of St. Paul Public Schools, in St. Paul, Arkansas. At St. Paul Schools she has been able to turn an elementary school that was on the third year of school improvement into a school that was designated as a “Model School” by Willard Daggett’s ICLE in 2012. She and her team have spoke to over 800 people at the Model Schools Conference in Orlando regarding their innovative approach to departmentalization in grades 1-6. Her school continues to communicate with other schools throughout the country to continue this discussion. St. Paul High School was on school improvement for both literacy and math when Daisy arrived, is no longer as a result of her leadership. When she arrived at St. Paul Schools there was a very limited amount of technology (virtually none.) As a poor, rural school they have students who have never even been to a large city in Arkansas, much less out of the state, so a goal of hers was to find a way to provide enough technology to bridge the gap of isolation and poverty her students experience. Mostly through grant writing, her teachers now have smartboards & Ipads (with extensive training on each) and approximately 150 more devices on the campus for student use. She was also able to configure they schedule to designate a teacher to be the tech integration specialist so she could help facilitate how to use these devices in the classrooms. This past year she has had the opportunity to be a presenter at some outstanding events; Model Schools 2012, EduCon, ICLE Ohio Best Practices Conference, NASSP Ignite13, and will be speaking at ISTE this summer. She was nominated for NASSP Digital Principal, and the Arkansas Secondary Principal of the Year this year. Academy votes and reviews
