Jamie Pitetti is an Autism Support teacher at Knapp Elementary School. She is not only responsible for meeting the needs of students in her classroom, she also serves as the mentor to other teachers, students and parents around the school in terms of building a level of awareness and capacity when it comes to children affected by autism. Each April, she provides an all-school, month-long autism rally to bring us together as a staff in how we see, hear and engage with those affected by autism. She has recently become a connected educator to learn and share at a deeper level. Learn with her at @JamiePitetti and follow along school autism awareness activities at @KnappAutism.

About the Nominee

Brief Comments - What other facts should we know? ( MAX 500 characters)
Jamie is an example of today's youngest crop of educators who come into a school prepared to lead not only a classroom, but to guide a staff toward a deeper level of capacity for children on the autism spectrum. Teachers in these classrooms are "on" 24/7 during each school day, and lesson preparations for both themselves and any assistants working within the classroom team must be detailed and specific to each child's needs. Without perseverance, fresh knowledge and a love for children who learn differently than most, Jamie's students would not progressing at such a rapid rate.
