About the Nominee
Brief Comments - What other facts should we know about your nominee?
Last fall Kris L. Nielsen submitted to the Washington Post, his "Letter from disgusted teacher: I quit. He explained that he quit because “I refuse to be led by a top-down hierarchy that is completely detached from the classrooms for which it is supposed to be responsible,” and “I will not spend another day under the expectations that I prepare every student for the increasing numbers of meaningless tests.” You can read the article here (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/answer-sheet/wp/2012/10/29/letter-from-disgusted-teacher-i-quit

Kris continues work to raise awareness and promote solutions for the education crisis caused by the corporate takeover of federal education policy first through his book Children of the Core (http://www.childrenofthecore.com/#1), second through his active sharing of resources through social facebook and blogs, and third by traveling to Washington , DC to participate in Occupy the DOE. By communicating his passion for teaching and learning with eloquence and reason, he has helped so many of us to find productive roles as citizens working to save our schools.
