Jill currently is an elected school board member of the Metropolitan Nashville (TN) Public Schools. Formerly she was taught for 35 years, as a classroom teacher, a teacher of struggling readers, a Reading Recovery teacher, and a professional development leader for other teachers. She has been a mentor for prospective and experienced teachers for decades. She has conducted research in her classroom and with colleagues in other settings; her research and presentations have reached audiences world wide.
As a School Board Member, she has taken on multiple leadership roles, always advocating for public schools, educational excellence for all students, and for fairness and justice in application of school policies. She is a leader that is knowledgeable and highly regarded for her careful consideration of issues affecting public schools and her pursuit of high quality programs that make a difference for students across SES levels.
