Although I've never met her, I feel like I know her through her work. To me Jennifer LaGarde is a consumate professional and a model teacher-librarian. An outstanding thinker and practitioner at the school level, Jennifer is now working with schools and school librarians in North Carolina to help integrate technology, transliteracy and common core standards. She freely shares her expertise through social media, webinars, presentations and publications, extending her influence well beyond the state and beyond the nation. Her blog posts are both practical and inspirational. Her intelligence, skill and humor shine throughout all of her work. With almost 5000 followers on Twitter, the resources and ideas she shares are favorited and retweeted by many in the education community. She has been instrumental in helping teacher librarians and others understand the importance of gamification in teaching and learning. Most recently Jennifer published an interactive calendar of resources for school library month and invited others to share those resources with principals, classroom teachers, school board members, legislators, parents and other teacher librarians. The resources provided were curated from some of the best examples of teacher librarianship today. In addition, she also shared exactyly HOW and WHY she created the calendar and invited readers to share their own resources and ideas using the technology. Her interactive infographic outlining the roles and activities of today's teacher librarian has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times and remixed and used by teacher librarians worldwide, clearly demonstrating her leadership in contemporary school librarianship.
