Marianne Miller Academy Nominee HotAbout NomineeName of Nominee: Nominees' website: http://www.cvcac.org Nominee's Organization Central VT Community Action Council Nominators affiliation to nominee: colleague Reason for Nominating: Over a decade ago, I became the Director of a small, rural Head Start program in Maine. I thought I knew what I was getting into. What a surprise to find it was a lot more complicated and I was awash! Enter Marianne Miller, mentor, friend, Head Start Director extraordinaire. I met Marianne at the New England Regional Conference and she happily took me under her wing, providing valuable guidance, support, and resources as I made my way through the first three years as a HS Director. Marianne's no nonsense, cut to the chase approach and her vast field of knowledge has made her one of the best Directors in our field. No challenge is too great for Marianne -not even the nasty spring flood that ruined the CVCAC home office a year ago this spring. Marianne is also a champion for Head Start/Early Head Start, serving on the New England Head Start Association BOD and the NHSA BOD. Marianne is a leader at the local state, region, and national level, fighting to keep Head Start strong and serving those children and their families most in need. Academy votes and reviews

About the NomineeComments - NOTE: You and your comment may be selected for the awards presentation. What would you say briefly? In every category, Marianne is more than a "5" -- she is a solid "10." For decades, she has had the vision and foresight to collaborate, plan and execute numerous initiatives responsive to the needs of children, families and communities served through Head Start and Early Head Start. When I started as a Head Start Director in 1999, and since that time, she has been more than generous with her time and expertise in mentoring me. She is a role model of best practice throughout New England and nationally. She is a 21st century leader whose use of technology, planning and data-driven decision-making is continually focused on optimizing outcomes for children and families. She has established a level of quality and professionalism, in programming and advocacy, that is to be emulated by all who work in the field of education, health or human services.
