Phil Hossler HotAbout NomineeName of Nominee: Nominees' website: http://teacherweb.com/NJ/EastBrunswickHS/EBBearCare/h7.aspx Nominee's Organization East Brunswick High School Nominators affiliation to nominee: Colleague Reason for Nominating: Phil Hossler has been providing the health care to the East Brunswick High School athletes for the past 28 years. Mr. Hossler is revered by colleagues and co-workers for his compassion towards people and the outstanding healthcare he provides for the East Brunswick student-athletes. He has successfully lead initiatives in the community and state for the acquisition of Automated External Defibrillators in efforts of preventing death in young athletes. Phil’s most recent endeavor is his distinguished service as member of the Brain Injury Association of New Jersey, whose goal is to raise community awareness about sports-related concussion. He has worked to educate students, parents, and the community in regards to concussion and sports safety. Phil, throughout his career has authored of 4 textbooks, 35 articles, and has been elected to 4 Halls of Fame, including the National Athletic Trainers Association. He has served as an elected leader on both the state and regional level of the athletic training profession. Phil started and continues to direct one most respected extracurricular high school student athletic training programs in the state. His unique curriculum provides high school students with valuable insight into and knowledge of the athletic training profession also imposing important life skills, such as a strong work ethic and commitment. He has mentored over 100 students since its inception, with many currently employed in the health care setting. As a student in Mr. Hossler’s program myself, the greatest lesson I ever learned was to never settle for being good, when you dreamt of being great. Phil Hossler’s career has followed that model. His dedication towards East Brunswick’s student-athletes, his student athletic trainers, as well as his continued desire for professional advancement and passion for the profession of athletic training makes Phil more than deserving of this great honor. He has dedicated his life and career to improving sports safety, and injury prevention at East Brunswick High School. Phil Hossler is an educator. He strives to educate his athletes, their parents, and coaches. He is well-respected by his peers and is looked up to by young athletic trainers all over the country. Phil's athletic training student program does not only teach its students lessons of anatomy, and injury assessment and management, but instills life lessons of responsibility, accountability, and allows for personal growth. Without question, Mr. Hossler’s mentorship and teaching helped to prepare me for a career in the National Football League, as is the case for many other healthcare professionals around the country. His dedication to his student athletics and their safety is unmatched. For the reasons mentioned above, I take great pride in recommending Mr. Phil Hossler for consideration for the 2012 Bammy Award. |
