Don is one the most innovative leaders in the independent school world. He is responsible for guiding the technology vision and beyond at the School at Columbia University which includes a 1:1 lap top program . Don has a strong background and interest in design and promotes the use of design thinking in education. One of his most notable projects has been Tools at School in which 8th grade art students worked with a design firm to create the ideal desk,, chair and locker. After going through the extensive design process, students traveled to North Carolina to see their furniture being made, and later, the designs were featured in Fast Company and even won an award at a furniture design event. Tools at School is a great example of applying critical thinking skills to real life situations, and should serve as a model to other schools. Don also recently a Year of Innovation in professional development efforts at the School of Colombia. Faculty members were encourage to explore innovation through various readings and special events with guest speakers such as the founder of Kickstarter.

Don is a champion of change, innovation and progressive education. He should be honored so that even more educators can learn from his expertise.
