About NomineeNominee's Organization Franklin Community School Corporation Nominators affiliation to nominee: Student and friend Tell us how he/she is making a difference: Don Wettrick innovated in and on many facets of life, most recently, education. Wettrick has created a high school class that models Google's 20% time, giving students a chance at freedom to choose what they learn and also giving those students a chance to make a difference in the world. Students get Wettrick's class time to go out and learn about something that they're interested or passionate in, and then gives students the ability to ask themselves "How can I make this better?" and then act upon it.

He is opening their world daily for them by connecting them to global thinkers and innovators. In short his classroom is a laboratory for meaningful, educational change. Students are challenged to learn, grow and create. There is nobody in education doing more meaningful work than Don Wettrick!

About the NomineeBrief Comments - What other facts should we know? ( MAX 500 characters) I met Don at Microsoft Partners in Learning US Forum in 2012. His booth was behind mine and we instantly became collaborators. This year, Don launched and produced a new show called "The FOCUS" to shine the positive light on education and educators/students using social media in the classroom. His students are motivated and strive for excellence in his "Innovations" classroom. I am honored to have met Don and look forward to more collaboration in the coming years.

About the NomineeBrief Comments - What other facts should we know? ( MAX 500 characters) I met him through Twitter and spent some time on the phone discussing his Innovations class and some of the other initiatives he is working on. Just from our phone call, I could tell he has a passion for his students for sparking innovation and new thinking in his class. I am happy we were able to connect through twitter and that I am able to continue to watch all the wonderful things he is doing at his school.
