Melanie Broxterman is an intervention specialist in the Princeton City School district in the greater Cincinnati, Ohio area. She works with students with multiple disabilities in grades K-2 and has been a teacher for over 13 years. Melanie encapsulates all of the characteristics of a great teacher. She is passionate about learning and has a heart for students with moderate to intensive special needs. She also has a passion for technology and seeks to integrate technology not only for better instruction, but as assistive technology (AAC) as well. She truly differentiates for the needs of each of her students and ensures each of her students' successes. She has attended and presented at numerous conferences both nationally and locally on the benefits of technology for students with special needs. She has built a strong PLN using Facebook and Twitter and regularly moderates "App Parties" through the blog "Technology in Special Education" on Facebook. She is also the current moderator of #spedchat on Tuesday evenings. As a special educator, Melanie has a remarkable amount of energy for the students she serves. She should absolutely be considered as the Elementary Teacher of the Year.
