About the Nominee
Brief Comments - What other facts should we know about your nominee?
In brief, I would first give a quick overview of her experience as educator in the US and abroad (from Inner City Los Angles to the rain forest of Irian Jaya and the steppe of Kazakhstan to her work supporting teachers at the University of Oregon's College of Education). I would suggest that, in addition to her breadth of experience, her greatest accomplishments as an educator are the varied ways in which she is able to simultaneous inspire all the members of a learning community, from parents, other teachers, and especially all of the students lucky enough to call her their teacher.
After briefly considering these three major areas in turn, I would conclude with reading a few passages from her book, _Child of Wonder_ about the importance of nurturing creativity in children; I would suggest that her own work as an educator is a testament to the power of allowing your heart to guide you in doing this both with children and one's own life and career.
